Mystery Classroom
- Wonderful game for all levels of English speakers, which is extremely motivating
- Find a partner on eTwinning platform or in FB groups for teachers of English, prepare a project (always connect with the teacher in advance and plan!) and then connect with the class and share your lesson, chat!
- You can connet via any videoconferencing tool that is available in both schools: Skype, Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, etc..
- Do not forget about different time zones while planning your videoconference! :)
- It is a bit more difficult to plan (especially to find a responsible partner school) but definitely worth it!
Engoo
- great resources for speaking
- conversation questions on hundreds of topics
- beautiful section for describing pictures
Vocaroo
- Ask students to record themselves (they can use their voices in their presentations, etc.)
- Great tool for online teaching, but not only that
Wordwall
- Great for conversational wheels on any topics.
- For example generating a topic for 1-minute-speech, for revising a topic or talking on seasonal topics
Drive and listen
- Choose a city and "drive" through it and listen to local radio
- Speaking idea: have students choose a city and use the scenery and sound as a backdrop for a role-play of people having a conversation in a car or a taxi
- Have fun and be creative: kids arguing, partners having a fight, a terrible taxi driver, a split couple, etc.
- Students could pretend they are lost, describing the scenery around them to someone on the phone
- Students could practise directions and basic phrases in the city

Classroom screen
- This is an amazing tool with many features such as:
- The traffic light tool; use it to have your whole class speak about a topic in a short period of time; for example, if you have a class of 15 students, give them a question to speak about and allot 45 seconds for each student; open the traffic light on classroom screen, share your screen, and set your timer for 45 seconds; turn the traffic light green when the student should start talking; when they have 15 seconds left, turn it yellow; turn it red at the end of 45 seconds; red indicates a hard stop and students must stop speaking then; the benefits are that all students can speak in a short period of time (15 students in 11.25 minutes) , and it discourages talkative students from dominating
- You can also use the "random name" feature to generate a student's name rather than you always calling on students
- Check out the other features, such as the dice, the timer, the stopwatch
Curiosity chats
- Curiosity Chats is an app that generates random conversation questions
- It's great for a warm up or for a communicative break between grammar exercises
Imagine it
- This website randomly generates images
- It can be used for imaginative speaking or to practice speculating
Once upon a picture
- A lovely website with over 400 beautiful, creative images to inspire speaking
- Each image has a set of discussion questions below them
- This is great to use as a warm-up for a topic-based lesson
Print Discuss
- Many conversational topics
- Conversatinal questions for lower level students
Conversation questions
- Excellent for starter activities
- High quality random question generator
Speak and Improve
- Talk to the speech robot, Sandi, who will ask you some questions.
- Afterwards, Sandi will give you a grade for your speaking.
- Were some questions difficult for you? Try them again to improve your score.
- For lower level students or pupils
Window swap
- Have students open window swap and choose a window from a country around the world
- This could be used as a vocabulary warmup; students could also make up a scenario about what could happen and use modals
- They could also do a memory game; they look out the window for 30 seconds and then they have to write down everything they can remember (this would be in teams as a competition)
- Students could guess the country (you would need to cover up the country in the upper right hand corner of the screen)
ESL games
- ESL Games has a wealth of speaking resources, including (but not limited to!) the random question generator, random topic generator, story cards or picture reveal
- Students can practice speculative language
- Useful for a lead-in, filler, or a fun speaking activity to do as a break between textbook exercises
