Mystery Skype is an educational game, invented by teachers, played by two classrooms on Skype. It is one of the activities on Skype in the Classroom. The aim of the game is to guess the location of the other classroom by asking each other questions. We ask only YES/NO questions and take turns asking and answering until both sides do not guess the other destination. If there are some problems, clues are given, of course. When there is time left at the end of lesson, we keep asking about life in the other country, town or school, and communicate with each other on some given topic, usually. Sometimes it is not possible to meet with the other school due to too huge time distance or different timetable. In such case we can exchange videos.
This kind of lesson is suitable for all age groups and can be used to teach subjects like geography, history, languages, mathematics and science.
I have started using this tool in October 2014 and my pupils and I really enjoy playing this game and speaking to students and teachers all over the world. I believe it is a fantastic opportunity to practice foreign languages and to learn about different countries.
